10 tips for getting the best out of MusoFinder
Try these 10 things and we're sure you'll find what you're looking for on MusoFinder. It works - read our 101 testimonials page for proof!
These are the top tips of how to get the best out of the site. If you have any more tips then please post them on our tips forum.
1. Keep up-to-date and on top
Search results are sorted by the users who most recently updated their profiles. Therefore the more often you update your profile the more hits you’ll get. Think outside the box. Treat your profile like a blog - put the latest stuff you have been doing, who you’re looking to hook up with and anything else you can dream up. Your profile is your chance to be creative. If music is your life, then what does your profile say about you?
2. The 3 most important things on MusoFinder: tags, tags and tags
Tags are keywords that people will type in to find your ad, so make sure all the relevant instrument, genre and location tags are included. A good example of a good set of tags would be: guitarist, electric, rock, for, hire, billy, corgan, radiohead, south, west, bristol, bath, frume.
3. Picture this
Upload an avatar with bite! Something that catches people’s attention and says something about you. We only feature musicians and band profiles on MusoFinder’s homepages that have an avatar, so something as simple as this could mean a lot more visits to your profile and contacts from other users.
4. Wanted! Dead or alive.
Use more wanted ads! Ads are displayed by the most recent, so re-listing your Wanted Ad will help keep it top of the list when members search. Also, don't forget the importance of good tags in your wanted ads.
5. Set up an alert
Setting up an alert means that you automatically get notified when a new member registers with the tags you are interested in. This means you don’t have to keep remembering to check the site. We’ll do all the hard work for you. All you have to do is set up the alert.
6. It’s all about the music
Gold Members can upload unlimited MP3s and videos to their profile, and get play counts on each track. This is the simplest way to let other members know what you are like as a musician. It speaks for itself! It doesn't matter if it's not perfect, just get something up there! You can always update it with your latest track.
7. Spread the word
Invite friends and contacts to the site. This site works on word of mouth. You may have noticed that the site is free. This means we can’t afford lots of advertising, so we rely on you guys to invite your friends and contacts. If everyone on this site invited one person we would double the membership overnight! The more members on the site the more chance you have of finding that perfect muso!
8. Get stuck in!
Put yourself out there! Contact other users – don’t wait around to be contacted. Find people, email people, post forums messages. Share, talk, ask, discuss, love, hate (less of the hate!).
9. Your name – up in lights!
Put www.musofinder.co.uk/your-username everywhere! Your email signature, forum posts (not just on MusoFinder, but other sites too), you’re My Space and You Tube sites. In fact we think this one is so useful, we’ll give Gold status to anyone who comes up with a really unique way of displaying their MusoFinder link. Send details to Stoo.
10. Check your stats
The stats are a good way of checking that these tips are working! Keep an eye on how many people are hitting your profile and listening to your music. If you can, try and get into our Top 10 chart.
Happy finding!
